If you live in Arlington and struggle to make the most of a tiny cooking space, you’re not alone, says Kitchen & Bath Factory co-owner David Doughton: “We specialize in small kitchens. They’re harder [to design] than big kitchens—you’re worried about an inch here and an inch there.”
Fortunately Doughton, who owns the business along with Chris Kay, enjoys a creative challenge—whether that means making the most of a postage-stamp-size space or weighing the merits of different countertop and flooring options for a luxury makeover. He says kitchen remodels can range from $25,000 for a condo to $150,000 for a high-end space with all the bells and whistles, although the average costs between $40,000 and $50,000. “With big budgets,” he says, “you get to pull out all the cool stuff”—like the reclaimed barn wood and tiles from Ann Sacks he found for a recent project.
What’s hot in Arlington kitchens right now? White cabinets are a consistent trend, Doughton says, along with white-and-gray quartzite countertops.
