Steve and Hans Wydler run a successful business together (last year The Wall Street Journal ranked them among the top 100 real estate teams nationwide for the second year in a row) and they have three Ivy League degrees between them. But they’ll always be brothers, as evidenced in their latest ad campaign. One video shows Hans sabotaging Steve for mom’s attention. In another, Steve gets revenge by lowering Hans’ chair to child-height for a client meeting. In the third, Steve leaves a doughnut-sugar handprint on his brother’s back.

“We take this business very seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously,” says Steve, who runs the Virginia office (Hans manages their Maryland operations). “Humor can be very effective.”

Especially when it comes to alleviating the stress of buying or selling a home. “They are friendly and engaging, and that makes the whole thing a thousand times more bearable,” says Ann Walther, who worked with Steve on two home purchases in Arlington, including her family’s current home near Yorktown High School.

“I think we have a long-term view,” Steve says. “We look for what’s best for the client and our relationship, even if it means delaying the commission or not even getting one in the short term.”
