Fuego Cocina y Tequileria

It’s not uncommon for Fuego—which stocks more than 120 tequilas—to serve upwards of 1,000 margaritas in a single night. But that’s not the only reason diners have been flocking to the “fire kitchen” in droves ever since its fall 2012 opening. They also come for the culinary finesse of chef Alfredo Solis, a native of Mexico City whose top-selling dishes include slow-cooked pork carnitas and roasted goat tacos.

Suzie Robb, who lives six blocks away, has been a Fuego regular from week one. “I like the vibrant colors and the low-key vibe,” says Robb, who works in the fitness industry and enjoys the subdued sophistication of this sombrero-free zone. “Unlike a lot of places in Clarendon, you can speak with your friends.”

Fuego is the latest success of chef/co-owner Jeff Tunks and his partners at Passion Food, who operate six other restaurants, including DC Coast in the District and PassionFish in Reston. –W.N.
