No need to show up empty-handed at that dinner party or birthday bash. Style columnist Adrienne Wichard-Edds shares five of her go-to spots for giftables that are sure to please.

1. The Preppy Pink Pony. Giggle at the name if you will, but this McLean shop is made for gift giving. The store can monogram almost anything you can think of—some items on the spot—making you, the giver, seem extra thoughtful. A personal touch goes a long way. www.preppypinkpony.com

2. Barstons Child’s Play. This toy store-book shop with locations in Arlington and McLean is always jam-packed on weekends with families making last-minute stops en route to kids’ birthday parties. Running late and blinded by the possibilities? The true treasures here are the staff, who can offer expert guidance on exactly the right gift to match the recipient’s age and interests. www.barstonschildsplay.com

3. Covet. From stylish S’well bottles and sparkly ADMK Jewelry to luxe Sydney Hale candles, you’re always guaranteed to find something fun, funky, functional—or
all of the above—at this tiny Bluemont boutique. www.covetarlington.com

4. Two the Moon: Bypass the inspirational message plaques and rustic décor at this Williamsburg Shopping Center boutique and head for the good stuff: delicate champagne flutes by Roost for the hostess; printed rompers by Milkbarn for tots; insulated beer growlers by DrinkTanks for groomsmen; and fun decals and tech accessories by iDecoz for tweens. twothemoon.com

5. Cloud Terre Pottery: Architectural ceramicist Amber Kendrick’s handmade plates, cups, bowls and trays are adored by local restaurateurs and chefs—just ask Mike Isabella or Tim Ma. Her made-in-Arlington pieces provide beautiful backdrops for food, but they also stand as art objects in their own right. www.cloudterre.com
