Mark Twain’s famous quip, “The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated,” could easily apply to film cameras, says Dominion Camera co-owner Gary Henry: “It’s kind of like vinyl records. There are a growing number of people who like shooting film, who love the look and feel.” Along with supplies for film lovers, the store stocks new gadgets like smartphone tripods, as well as new and used digital cameras and lenses.
While many people buy cameras online, there are instances in which a trip to a brick-and-mortar camera shop can be worthwhile. “I think our biggest value is, we’re here to help you,” Henry says. Folks who are puzzled by their new gear are encouraged to return to the store for hands-on assistance. It’s also a fun spot to find inspiration. The hallway to the parking lot hosts a gallery of photos by customers and local high school students.
