Excellent chef (Matt Hill)—check. Thoughtful, experienced management (general manager Sean Lowder has worked for co-owners Steve and Mark Fedorchak and Brian Normile ever since the place opened in 2007)—check. Great location (historic building at the intersection of Washington, Clarendon and Wilson Boulevards)—check. But what makes The Liberty Tavern best in its class is something else. Consider the comments of one Yelp user who dined at the tavern in September after attending a family interment at Arlington National Cemetery: “Not only is the food absolutely delicious here (and it’s my teen’s new favorite restaurant), but it’s also a restaurant with heart and compassion. Something that I have not come across in a loooonnng time. The service was excellent [and] they were always there at just the right time. We can’t wait to go back on a happier day!” Reviews don’t get much better than that, folks.
