Westover Market & Beer Garden
Best Neighborhood Bar

What defines a great neighborhood bar? “A friendly, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere that’s open to all walks of life,” says Devin Hicks, whose family bought Westover Market in 2006 and added the adjoining beer garden (and haus) in 2009. It also helps to have great beer—in this case, 16 rotating taps with an ever-evolving roster of unusual brews—and tasty food made with local, hormone-free meats and organic produce from the market next door. Sealing the deal: fire pits that turn the outdoor beer garden into a cozy gathering spot in fall and winter.
In this setting, a natural human chemistry occurs. “Conversations happen, neighbors meet neighbors, families connect with other families, beer enthusiasts trade brew notes, sports fans cheer or jeer together and community happens,” says Hicks. Mission accomplished.
