Want to soak up some culture on a Monday night instead of grumbling about the start of the workweek? Head to Busboys and Poets in Shirlington where, for two hours, performers ranging from spoken-word artists to acoustic musicians take turns in the spotlight during the café’s weekly open mic session. Held in the cozy Robeson Room, it’s a celebration of diverse voices, and there’s a different guest host every week (recent hosts have included hip-hop poet 13 of Nazareth and fiction writer/spoken-word artist KaNikki Jakarta). As the Busboys website says so poetically: “Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.”
