Sure, the house-baked pretzels are soul satisfying and the intricately decorated petits fours always make an impressive hostess gift, but baked goods aren’t the only gems at the bakery Wolfgang and Carla Büchler have been running since 1975. You’d be remiss to skip the deli case stocked with traditional German cold cuts and sausages, made for the Büchlers by a German butcher in Baltimore. And be sure to put the first Sunday after Mother’s Day on your calendar. That’s when Wolfgang mans the grill at Heidelberg’s outdoor sausage cart, serving up weisswurst, bratwurst and other savory links topped with caraway-spiked kraut and potato salad flecked with onions and bacon.
