A concert at The State Theatre. Josh Brick Graphics
Let Madison Square Garden have Billy Joel. The State Theatre has its very own “artist in residence” in the ’80s-dance-party revivalist band The Legwarmers. Most months you’ll find the cheeky cover band playing two sold-out shows at the intimate venue to an audience decked out in neon headbands, spandex and “Save Ferris” T-shirts. In between, The State hosts an eclectic mix of bigger-name acts (such as punk-pop pioneers X and rock legend Todd Rundgren), tribute bands (Red Not Chili Peppers, Lez Zeppelin, Bruce in the USA), and up-and-coming independent artists. Want to put on your own show? The refurbished 1930s-era Art Deco theater can be rented for corporate events, weddings, bar mitzvahs and more. And word has it the congested bar area will soon be getting a makeover.
