Originally founded by Oscar Stern in 1945, Casual Adventure has been a fixture in Virginia Square for four generations. While the neighborhood has changed dramatically, their quality merchandise and outdoor expertise has not.
The key to Casual Adventure’s success is their commitment to their customers, from weekend warriors to world class athletes. With friendly staff that loves to camp, hike, run, ski and play ball—they provide experience and first-hand familiarity of the gear they sell.
“Our knowledge and expertise are derived from the activities we love,” says Eric Stern, Oscar’s great grandson and fourth-generation owner. “We share that passion with our customers.”
Casual Adventure’s connection to the local community is strong: They donate regularly to Arlington schools, scout troops and clubs, and sponsor numerous youth sports teams. For decades, they have been the area’s go-to spot for scouting uniforms and supplies, and have recently added sporting goods to the mix, further embedding the store into the fabric and future of Arlington.
As their motto states, Casual Adventure “Can Outfit You From Great Falls to Nepal.”
