Does your team, Bicycling Realty, show houses only by bicycle?
We take our clients around by car, by bike, on foot—whatever they prefer. We call ourselves Bicycling Realty Group for three reasons. First, yes, we will go out by bike with anybody who wants to. It’s a great way to get the feel for a neighborhood, and remember—when you’re buying a house, you aren’t just buying a building, you’re buying a place in a community. Second, I personally do a lot of biking around the neighborhoods my clients are interested in so I can get to know that neighborhood. Third, people who know me know I bring a lot of energy to my work. I wanted to convey that in our team name and a bicycle seems like a better way to do that than a lightning bolt.
The bicycle can show up in other ways, too. Recently, I had clients selling a house with start-of-the-art geothermal heating and energy efficient design. The house was an absolute jewel, but I wanted to make sure prospective buyers knew in particular about its eco-friendliness. So I invited my favorite bike store, Conte’s Bike Shop, to showcase a number of bikes in the driveway during an open house. The bike show was a hit, but the open house was even better—we received a contract on the house within a week.
What brings you the most satisfaction in the work you do?
Buying or selling a house is the biggest financial transaction that most people go through—but it’s also often even bigger than that, because it’s part of a major life event. People selling and buying houses are often experiencing changes in their family situations, their careers, and so on. I find it very rewarding to help people manage some part of what can be a rather challenging process.
