Does your team, Bicycling Realty Group, show houses only by bicycle?
We take our clients around by car, by bike, on foot—whatever they prefer. We call ourselves Bicycling Realty Group for three reasons. First, yes, we will go out by bike with anybody who wants to. It’s a great way to get the feel for a neighborhood, and remember—when you’re buying a house, you aren’t just buying a building, you’re buying a place in a community. Second, I personally do a lot of biking around the neighborhoods my clients are interested in, so I can get to know that neighborhood. Third, people who know me know I bring a lot of energy to my work, and I wanted to convey that in our team name.
Do bicycles figure into your work in other ways, as well?
As a matter of fact, last year I had clients selling a house with state-of-the-art geothermal heating and energy efficient design. The house was an absolute jewel, but I wanted to make sure prospective buyers also knew about its eco-friendliness. So, I invited Conte’s Bike Shop to showcase a number of bikes in the driveway during an open house. The bike show was a hit, but the open house was even better—we received a contract on the house within a week.
What brings you the most satisfaction in the work you do?
Buying or selling a house is not only the biggest financial transaction that most people go through, it’s a major life event. People selling and buying houses are often experiencing changes in their family situations or their careers. I find it very rewarding to help people manage some part of what can be a rather challenging process.
