Red House Architects
Bio: Red House Architects was founded in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington by Robert Braddock. After many years in architecture, he took the opportunity to start his own firm. Mr. Braddock combines a personal understanding of traditional Arlington homes (and homeowners!), with a strong sense for order and harmony in design.
The Project: The homeowners had a kitchen / breakfast area that needed a remodel. In addition, they wanted a larger area, like a great room, for family and entertaining. It needed to have a connection and natural flow to the kitchen. And, they wanted it to resemble the gathering room they once enjoyed in a previous vacation home. The solution was to connect the remodeled kitchen with a large, open, light-filled space, at the nexus where the circulation paths would meet. This allowed the largest amount of undisturbed gathering area, and window expanse, for each space, while maintaining the visual and social connection between the two spaces. The homeowner’s solid wood furniture perfectly complemented the honey-hued cabinetry and flooring. The project created an inviting space that is a delight to the homeowners and their guests.
