It’s hard to beat a free outdoor concert on a summer day. Whatever your musical tastes, you’re sure to find some great shows at area stages and amphitheaters, starting with these local concert series.

Alden Summer Sunday Concerts in the Park

Sundays, Now-July 30 | 3 p.m.

The lineup for this weekly outdoor concert series in McLean includes 16-voice pop group the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington: Potomac Fever, all-female a cappella outfit Capital Blend and “intergalactic Balkan surf jazz trio” Czarna Wolgastar. // McLean Central Park, 1468 Dolley Madison Blvd., McLean

Ballston Mega Market

First Thursdays Monthly, July 6-Nov. 2 | 3-7 p.m.

Stop by the Ballston farmers market to pick up seasonal produce, empanadas and local coffee, and enjoy a side of live jams on the first Thursday of every month. Local musicians on the roster include the Keara Rose Duo and Kara and Matty D. /Welburn Square, 901 N. Taylor St., Arlington 

Falls Church Concerts in the Park

Thursdays, June 22-Aug. 3 | 7 p.m.

Catch bluegrass band Big Howdy, saxophonist Lil’ Maceo, rock outfit Flowerbomb and other local artists each Thursday night through early August at Cherry Hill Park. Picnic dinners, blankets and chairs are encouraged. // Cherry Hill Park, 312 Park Ave., Falls Church


Thursdays, June 22 & 29, July 13 | 4 p.m.

This concert series is a first for Amazon’s just-opened Metropolitan Park at National Landing. Catch a lineup of local jazz artists, including the Langston Hughes II Quartet, drummer-led Julian Berkowitz Quartet and vocalist Heidi Martin. // Metropolitan Park, S. Fern St., Arlington

Lubber Run Concert Series

Now-Aug. 11 | Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 11 a.m.*

More than 20 acts are slated to perform now through August at this outdoor amphitheater nestled in the woods of Lubber Run Park. Among the offerings: Alt-tropical outfit Cumbia Heights, blues fusion ensemble Mama Moon & the Rump Shakers and several other kid-centric shows, such as Mr. Jon and Friends. Mosaic Live

Saturdays, June 24-Aug. 19 | 6 p.m.

Mosaic debuts its first outdoor weekly concert series with a wide array of local bands. The bill includes disco party band Groovalicious, operatic trio Los Three Baritones, and Latin pop outfit Ocho de Bastos. Feel free to tote along your lawn chair. // Strawberry Park, 2910 District Ave., Fairfax

Rosslyn Summer Music Series

Wednesdays, July 12-Aug. 2 | 4-6:30 p.m.

Head to Central Place on Wednesdays for performances from Nashville-bred country/Americana outfit Blair’s West and eclectic duo Azil Rain, among others. While you’re there, pick up something for dinner at the FreshFarm Farmer’s Market. // Central Place Plaza, 1800 Lynn St., Arlington 

Summer Live Music Series at The Boro

Thursdays, Now-Aug. 24 | 5:30-8 p.m.

Make Thursday nights fun with live local music at The Boro, where concerts are paired with other entertainment and conveniently take place near eateries such as High Point Pub and Jeni’s Ice Cream.
