Andrea Campbell Davison specializes in bankruptcy, creditors’ rights and commercial lending. She currently serves as a Chapter 7 Panel Trustee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Columbia.
Q: What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned during your career?
A: The practice of law is an art, not a science. Though mentors are critical, I think the best lawyers take what they learn from others and adapt it to their own strengths. They develop a voice, a style and a way of practicing that feels authentic while still serving the client effectively. That has been one of the most important lessons of my career: learn the craft from the people around you, but do not be afraid to become your own kind of lawyer.
Q: What advice would you offer for women just starting out?
A: Be open to adapting and remember to take the long view. Opportunities, challenges, mentors and personal responsibilities in your life will change. You may have seasons where you are pushing hard, learning as much as possible and saying yes to opportunities. In other seasons, your priorities might shift or your path might change in ways you did not expect. That does not mean you are behind or that you made the wrong choice. It means you are building a career over time.
Q: What do you love most about doing business in this area?
A: Arlington is amazing and I feel very connected to it even though I wasn’t born here. I love living in Arlington, raising my kids here and participating in the same community where my clients are building their own businesses and lives. I’m so lucky to practice at Bean Kinney & Korman, a firm deeply rooted and dedicated to the area.
