Q: What inspired you to start Illuminos?
A: When I founded Illuminos, I wasn’t trying to build a business. I saw a need that wasn’t being met. Growing up around family members with ADHD, processing differences and other forms of neurodiversity, I knew that intelligence and academic success aren’t always the same thing. Too many bright, capable students were struggling, not because they lacked ability, but because they’d never been taught the executive function skills, like staying organized, managing time and following through. What matters most to me is helping students become more independent and confident, taking some of the pressure off at home and giving families back the time they’d otherwise spend fighting over homework, so they can just be a family.
Q: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned as Illuminos has grown?
A: The best outcomes come from bringing together people with different expertise. I’ve never believed one person has all the answers. I believe in building a team of exceptional professionals who challenge and learn from one another, working together to provide students and families the support they deserve.
Q: What advice would you give to women starting a business or considering a second career?
A: Start with something you care about. Keep learning, ask questions, listen to people who know more than you do and don’t be afraid to grow as your business grows. For women considering a second career, trust the experience you’ve already gained. The relationships you’ve built, the perspective you’ve earned and the resilience you’ve developed are often your greatest strengths.
