Tired of being mansplained and wary of potential price-gouging (she had a couple bad experiences), Akilah Beavers launched her Arlington-based company in 2022. “I decided I didn’t want any other women to feel that way,” she says. My Favorite Fixer provides referrals to vetted home repair technicians, many of whom are women, and offers classes that teach DIY skills.
