Since opening Right at Home In-Home Care and Assistance in 2002, Mark and Colleen Turner have built an excellent reputation among caregivers and clients alike. Seventeen years later, they are transferring ownership to their son, Phill, who joined Right at Home in 2011 and is currently the Executive Director. The Turners attribute Right at Home’s success to their outstanding care team and their focus on delivering compassionate, personalized care. “Several of our caregivers have been with Right at Home for a decade or more,” says Owner & President Mark Turner. “We offer client-specific training and a variety of continuing education classes so our caregivers can provide the highest quality care.”
Right at Home’s extensive training program is led by certified nurse educators who cover topics ranging from palliative care to encouraging independence in clients with Parkinson’s. “We created a training curriculum that highlights how caregivers can be sensitive to different cultural backgrounds and religious beliefs during hospice,” says Phill Turner. Caregivers also receive a hands-on “virtual dementia tour” which limits their senses and gives them a better understanding of what it’s like to have dementia.
Whether they need a few hours of assistance or round-the-clock care, clients are assigned a nurse supervisor who performs frequent assessments and is available to answer questions. To facilitate communication among caregivers, clients and family members, Right at Home uses a software program called ClearCare that allows caregivers to share daily notes with loved ones, identify changes in a client’s condition and take appropriate action immediately. “Our clients come first,” says Phill Turner. “We are truly passionate about making a difference in the lives of the seniors we serve.”
