Q: What makes you different than other firms?
A: Sean Schmergel established his family law practice nearly twenty-three years ago with the goal of helping ordinary people who are most in need of legal assistance. Your friends, family and neighbors are most likely to encounter the court system because they are either getting divorced, having a family dispute (such as child custody or support) or need a protective order to shield them from a domestic abuser. We have also seen a proliferation of clients seeking prenuptial agreements, including younger couples in first marriages. We have prepared thousands of marital agreements and dealt with even more in the divorce context. We bring significant experience to bear in all areas of family law, often receiving referrals from other attorneys for that reason.Â
Q: How do you employ new technology to help your clients?
A: We have always employed cutting-edge technology in our practice, which today includes ethical use of Artificial Intelligence to assist with legal research and other tasks. Today’s latest tech has also permitted us to meet our clients where they are, employing video conferencing for consultations, meetings and even court appearances when necessary. We use secure file sharing platforms to send clients pleadings and other case documents, have secure online billing and payment platforms, and utilize VOIP teleconferencing so calls can be appropriately routed and timely fielded whether working from the home or office. This also permits us to keep our clients abreast of developments in their cases in a timely and efficient manner, while keeping costs reasonable.
