Holy Cow

Okay, it’s a gourmet burger joint, but it does have more than burgers. This Del Ray eatery offers creative build-your-own sandwiches that support a larger cause. In addition to its signature angus beef, you can choose among fillers such as turkey, chicken, tuna, pollock or veggies.  Then come the toppings, which include the standard lettuce and tomato, plus alternative choices like pineapple salsa or truffled creamed spinach—and more than a dozen sauces. There are several gluten-free options (including buns) and kids will gravitate toward the sweet-potato fries with marshmallow-fluff dipping sauce…not to mention the towering milkshakes. Twenty-five cents from every sandwich sale supports local charities through the community foundation ACT for Alexandria.
