8 Arlington Dog Parks, Ranked

The county has eight sanctioned off-leash dog parks. We break them down for you with the help of our canine critic, Pepe.

#6 Fort Barnard Dog Park

Address: 2060 South Walter Reed Drive

Sponsor Group: Douglas Dogs

Size: Small—it’s part of the 5-acre Fort Barnard Park

Parking: There’s sufficient street parking on South Walter Reed Drive, but be careful exiting the car with your dog on this busy street.

Defining Feature: Chill. With the much larger and busier Shirlington Dog Park just down the road, Fort Barnard is more relaxed and less crowded. There’s a fantastic community garden next door.

Pepe’s Take: “Nothing fancy about this park—just space and benches—but that’s okay by me because I’m not a fancy pup. I love smelling the flowers and the veggies from the adjacent community garden. Just watch out for bees.”
