Cookology isn’t a restaurant, per se. It’s a cooking school that recently opened in Ballston Quarter, so be prepared to don an apron and try your hand at one of its classes. (Yes, you get to eat what you make.) For example, you can practice your knife skills ($35 per person) and make vegetable soup. Sign up for the appetizers class ($65 per person) and you’ll be whipping up sausage mushroom puffs, parmesan tuiles (wafers) with shrimp butter, candied pecans and butternut squash bruschetta. A family breakfast tutorial ($40 per person) will turn you into a master of French toast with berry compote, egg cups, apple fries with a caramel cream dip and maple-glazed bacon.  Or, learn how to make bites for a social Saturday night ($65 per person) including asparagus soup topped with lump crabmeat and shrimp, cheese puffs, caramelized pear cake and a gin-lavender shrub cocktail. // 4238 Wilson Blvd., Arlington (Ballston)

Chef John Hart says the Spanish eatery will be offering an assortment of cocas (flatbreads) and tizona (skewers) as part of a two-course lunch ($18) or three-course dinner ($22).  For starters, try the papas bravas, croquettes, “Messi” chili (soccer fans will get the reference), gazpacho or arugula salad. Entrées include chicken thigh, pork (tenderloin or belly), beef tenderloin, vegetables or skewers—with sides such as roasted eggplant, saffron rice, collard greens, pisto, stewed chickpeas or herb-roasted potatoes. Alternately, you can order a coca as one of your sides, topped with grilled veggies (Escalibada), sausage (Botifarra), chorizo or mushroom. The dinner deal includes a dessert course featuring a seasonal parfait, a salted caramel and dark chocolate pot au crème, triple chocolate mousse (dark, white and milk) or lemon meringue pie. // 4238 Wilson Blvd. Suite 150, Arlington (Ballston)
