6 New Bakeries and Coffee Shops In and Around Arlington, VA

Treat yourself to kimchi croquettes, Hong Kong egg tarts, dulce de leche brownies and a wild blueberry caramel iced latte.

Protein-centric diets may be all the rage right now, but given the number of bakeries popping up in recent weeks, it’s safe to say we are all still reaching for the comfort of carbs. Pair those croissants, pastries and cakes with creative coffees at these new spots.

The Beat Bakery at Pop-Up District

Among the kiosks at the Eden Center’s new Asian food hall and nightlife spot is a bakery that specializes in buttery croissants and sweet Hong Kong egg tarts. The menu will offer specials on rotation, plus a few standbys that are always at the ready, says Jay Tran, a co-founder of the space that opened June 8. Want some coffee or a matcha drink to go with your baked goods? Doppo, a neighboring kiosk at Pop-Up District, has butterscotch lattes and coconut matcha. 6763 Wilson Blvd., Falls Church

Cafecito

The former Mumu Cafe off Langston Boulevard is now under new ownership. And as of June 11, those owners are serving up pastries sourced from local Mexican-American bakers. Treats at Cafecito include matcha- and s’mores-flavored conchas, dulce de leche brownies and a keto-friendly orange loaf. 1924 N. Uhle St., Arlington

Flore Café

This new concept from Sisters Thai founder Tammie Disayawathana specializes in high tea with an Asian twist, although you can also grab a pastry—croissant roll, anyone?—and coffee to go. The pretty cafe opened April 6 with a White Lotus theme and recently switched over to a new one, “Amalfi Summer, Thai Surprise,” blending Thai tastes with Italian pastries. The result: savory bites such as calzone pie and sweet treats like pistachio cannoli. 7735 Capital One Tower Road, Tysons
