Take advantage of seasonal temperatures with an outdoor workout sesh, or stake out your favorite treadmill at a new gym. Here are some great ways to work up a sweat in and around the nation’s fittest city.
Hustle with Sunny Mae
Get your sweat on with a former Soul Cycle instructor whose gym, Hustle, recently closed in National Landing. Every Tuesday at 7 a.m. and Thursday at 6 p.m. through Oct. 8, the outdoor full-body class is available to exercisers of all abilities. Wellness Passport: Yoga Sculpt & Sip
Cagla Giray, founder of Giray Yoga, is partnering with Immigrant Food Ballston to offer a special class that blends movement, music and flavor. A ticket to the Sept. 28, 10:30 a.m.-noon, event costs about $45. That gets you a 60-minute body-weight Yoga Sculpt class designed for all levels, a mimosa or the nonalcoholic drink of your choice and access to a special brunch menu, which carries an additional fee. 4245 Fairfax Drive, Arlington (Ballston)
Runner Strength Series at Training Ground
Training Ground, which has locations in Ballston and Rosslyn, is hosting a course focused on weightlifting for runners. It runs (see what we did there?) through Oct. 11, and although it’s designed as an eight-week commitment, drop-ins are welcome for $30 per class. Plaza at Mason Square
The outdoor space on George Mason University’s Arlington campus hosts a bevy of social events, including free weekly fitness classes. Through Nov. 1, take an hourlong K-Pop dance class on Mondays at 6 p.m., a Latin dance class on Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m., yoga on Wednesdays at 6 p.m., pilates on Thursdays at 6 p.m., Zumba on Fridays at 5:30 and dance on Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. 3383 Fairfax Drive, Arlington (Virginia Square)

National Landing’s Center Park will turn into a workout studio on Sundays, 2-3 p.m., Sept. 21-Oct. 26. Take a free, instructor-led class such as barre, yoga, Pilates, Zumba or functional fitness, each presented by a local gym. Wednesdays, 8-9 a.m., from Sept. 25-Oct. 22, Met Park will play host to barre, high-intensity interval training, pilates, Zumba and yoga classes. Barre3 will be opening Ballston location later this year. In the meantime, instructors are offering free classes throughout the area. Catch one at Clarendon Presbyterian Church on Sept. 22 and 29 at 6:15 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church Sept. 24 and 30 at 6 p.m., and outdoors in the space between 4075 Wilson Blvd. and Poppyseed & Rye (818 N. Qunicy St.) on Sept. 23 and Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. For 45 minutes, perform strength conditioning, cardio and mindfulness for a full-body workout. The Boro
Catch one of these free outdoor classes before they wrap up at the end of this month. Every other Saturday, 9-10 a.m., Outrun Gravity hosts an outdoor bodyweight bootcamp; Zumba happens every other Tuesday, 6-7 p.m.; and yoga is every other Wednesday, 6-6:45 p.m. On Oct. 7, 6-7 p.m., enjoy a one-off Rebound Trampoline workout hosted by Club Studio. Jump on your own little trampoline while lifting weights. And on Oct. 15, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Giray Yoga will host a Yoga Sculpt class. 8350 Broad St., Tysons

Want to try a new gym? This chain of boutique fitness studios opened its second Virginia location in National Landing in May. (The first, which opened in July 2024, is at 1500 Cornerside Blvd. in Tysons.) This fall, owner Aryan Siahpoushan, owner of Method Fitness on Langston Boulevard, will open a sister space focusing on personalized strength training. Small group classes (limited to five clients or less) include a dedicated coach and time slot.
