24 Things to Do in February
Cupid not your cup of tea? How about an après-ski raclette party, live music all over town, or a Jedi Academy for the little ones?
When: Feb. 6, 7:30 p.m.
Where: The Birchmere, 3701 Mt. Vernon Ave., Alexandria
The music of vocalist Lizz Wright is nothing if not emotionally stirring—in the deliciously slow “Hit the Ground” off her 2005 album Dreaming Wide Awake, her voice resonates with wisdom as she sings “See your eyes in mine / Leave the rest behind.” Tickets $39.50.
When: Feb. 7-9
Where: The Barns at Wolf Trap, 1635 Trap Road, Vienna
The latter half of Grammy award-winning Simon & Garfunkel, whose music provided the soundtrack for the cinematic classic The Graduate, is set to take The Barns by storm in this solo performance. Garfunkel has released 12 albums on his own, and has also made an appearance on the big screen in Catch-22 and Carnal Knowledge. Check website for ticket prices.
When: Feb. 8, 10 p.m. – 1 a.m.
Where: The Renegade, 3100 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington
Head to Clarendon’s newest music venue and rock out to tunes by artists such as Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, Elvis, Run DMC and The Weekend. D.C.-area cover band 7 Deadlies’ set lists include rock anthems, hip hop sing-a-longs, classic rock throwbacks and top 40 dance pop classics.
When: Feb. 8, 8-11 p.m.
Where: Falls Church Distillers, 442 S. Washington St., Falls Church
The local band plays what the late, great Gram Parsons dubbed “Cosmic American Music,” including old-school country, rockabilly, classic rock and folk alternative tunes.
