MarshmallowMBA is ready to take your campfire or Easter basket to the next level.
After 20 years in government consulting, Amy Hughes was craving a change. So she earned her MBA from George Washington University and set her sights on something sweeter. “I learned to make candy from my grandmother,” explains the Falls Church resident. “After she passed three years ago, I started making marshmallows for my friends. One of them said, ‘You should sell these. You could be the marshmallow MBA!’” And so MarshmallowMBA was born. Hughes teamed up with former college roommate Sandra Stegman and the two started selling their confections at Easter time in 2016. Today, their egg-free, dairy-free and fat-free marshmallows, manufactured at a facility in York, Pennsylvania, are available in more than 100 creative flavors, including bourbon-bacon, fire-toasted vanilla, mojito (mint and lime), salted caramel, and candied ginger. The product line also includes Energy Marshmallows made with B vitamins and caffeine; S’morks (s’mores on a fork); and brown-butter-bourbon Krispy Bars (similar to Rice Krispies treats).
